Dean was born on Sunday 12th November 2000. He was born at 6.05pm. After a complicated birth, 24 hrs later Dean was rushed to special care. He went blue and starting convulsing. 3-4 days later the hospital staff got his convulsing under control. Dean came home with me 9 days later. Dean was a happy baby, and we were delighted to have him home. Dean had a few (febrile convulsions from the age of 4- 6) with high temperatures. He suffered with chest infections and tonsillitis, which brought on the high temps. Dean also had a speech delay, and had learning difficulties. He went to St. Brigid’s special school, which I can’t praise enough. He enjoyed going to school every day. He was the most easy going child , 2008 Dean started having more convulsions, we thought he grew out of them ( The hospital told us he would grow out of febrile convulsions after age 6 ) he was sent to Temple St. Hospital for EEG scan which showed abnormalities. He then was sent for an MRI brain scan, which showed an abnormality. Dean had 3 more seizures before being put on medication and treated for epilepsy. When Dean began the medication he went 9 months seizure free... sadly on 11th December 2010 Dean suffered his last seizure to which took his life. Dean was 10 years old. I can’t describe how devastated we all are by losing Dean. A huge hole has been left in our family which can never be filled.
